The Martin & Farrell Story
Marfar Pty Ltd was started by Mr John/Jack Martin and Miss Maria Farrell back in 1983.
After having travelled the world extensively, Jack retired as the CEO from the SINGER sewing machine company in Australia, and together with his then Secretary (now his wife) they started Marfar as--” a Hobby in Retirement”.
Maria had also worked with the SINGER company, since 1959, and grew up as a quiet country girl. That’s probably where she learned how to make such great cakes. Some thing they both enjoyed for morning tea.
Quite some years before Jack’s previous wife had passed away from MND, and he had spent a lot of time and money trying to find a cure.
Together Maria and Jack made a great business team, and they were the nicest people to deal with. Many people in the trade will back me up in saying that.
All those years they ran the company with a fax-machine and a type-writer and about 24000 stock record cards, right up to 2017, when Jack passed away at the age of 98, 18 months short of the big 100.
Many people, including me, never knew what the name MARFAR meant, and if you go back to the first sentence of this page, you will realise it. But that’s just a word. What it really meant, I realised from the help Maria gave us when handing over the business.
The number of hours she put in, just so that the customers wouldn’t be compromised. And all this while she was still grieving.
I hope that we at Marfar Sewing Parts and Accessories, can measure up to standard that has been set for all those years. (Maybe with a little help from modern technology)
